Dr. Kris Volcheck

Founding CEO / Dental Director

  • Nonprofit dental leadership
  • Oral health equity
  • Community-centered care

Dr. Kris Volcheck is the founder and CEO of Brighter Way Institute, the nonprofit organization behind The Bob & Renee Parsons Center for Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics. He opened the organization’s first dental clinic in 2001 to care for people experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County. That mission grew to include children, veterans, working families, and others who face barriers to affordable oral healthcare.

After earning his dental degree from Emory University in 1985, Dr. Volcheck moved to Arizona and opened a private dental practice in Globe. He later completed a Master of Business Administration. His volunteer work with Central Arizona Shelter Services showed him how many uninsured and underinsured people were going without comprehensive dental treatment and inspired him to build a more accessible model of care.

Under Dr. Volcheck’s leadership, Brighter Way Institute has developed into a comprehensive nonprofit dental organization serving vulnerable communities throughout the Phoenix area. His vision continues at Parsons through high-quality pediatric and orthodontic care that puts children and families first, regardless of their background or insurance status.

Dr. Mark McAlister

Pediatric Orthodontic Specialist

  • Children and teen orthodontics
  • Complex care experience
  • Confidence-focused treatment

Dr. Mark McAlister is a pediatric orthodontic specialist with a lifelong commitment to helping children and teens develop healthy, confident smiles. Raised in Yukon, Oklahoma, he learned the value of personal relationships and individualized care—principles that still shape the way he works with patients and parents today.

Dr. McAlister completed his undergraduate education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. He then completed a hospital-based dental residency in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he gained experience caring for patients with a wide range of medical and dental needs.

He continued his advanced orthodontic training at the University of Iowa and conducted research into the ways orthodontic treatment can support a child’s self-esteem and emotional well-being. At Parsons, Dr. McAlister combines that expertise with clear communication, education, and a gentle approach so children understand their treatment and feel comfortable throughout their smile journey.

From the first braces consultation through the final result, Dr. McAlister works to make orthodontic care effective, encouraging, and enjoyable. He partners closely with families and treats every child with the patience and respect he would want for his own family.
